Pickleball League Begin. Single Player Will Call

Wednesdays or Thursdays, September 25 – October 24
Please sign up for this will call if you are a single player without a partner. We will make every effort to match you with a partner and then enroll you in one of our beginner pickleball leagues. Please indicate in the enrollment questions which beginner league you prefer. Please note that the Any Doubles League (open to men’s, women’s, or mixed doubles) on Wednesdays is the easier league to find a partner for.

Pickleball League Mixed Doubles Beginner
Ages 18 and up
Wednesdays, September 26 – October 24
Join a Park District pickleball league and play pickleball in the parks this summer! All leagues are 5 weeks long. Five Franklin X-40 pickleballs per team are included and can be picked up from Park District Headquarters prior to league play.

Family Creeking Fun!
All ages
Creeking season is coming to a close! Let’s get out one more time to investigate fossils and search for creatures! Close-toed shoes are required. This is a Tools to Trek program.

Pumpkin Succulent Centerpiece
Ages 16 and up
Decorate for fall with a pumpkin topped with moss and succulents. Choose between one pie pumpkin or three mini pumpkins!

Family Birdwatching Walk
All ages
Join avid birdwatcher John Kennard on a walk focusing on bird identification and fun facts. Bring binoculars if you have them. A limited supply will be available to borrow. Hike is on a natural path. This is a Tools to Trek program.

Empowering Outdoors: Coffee & Conversation
Ages 18 and up
Join the Centerville-Washington Park District and the local non-profit Hope Wanders to enjoy coffee and conversation with guest speakers and/or an educational experience followed by a walk or hike. This session will include an introduction to fly fishing led by Miami Valley Fly Fishers followed by a 1.5-mile walk on a paved trail. Fly Fishing is a skill that leads to a deeper appreciation for nature and can be a relaxing hobby or a way to bring fresh fish to the dinner table!
Registration is not required.
Pickleball League Any Doubles Intermediate+
Ages 18 and up
Mondays, September 30 – October 28
Join a Park District pickleball league and play pickleball in the parks this summer! All leagues are 5 weeks long. Five Franklin X-40 pickleballs per team are included and can be picked up from Park District Headquarters prior to league play. This for-fun league is open to any doubles teams (men’s, women’s or mixed doubles) at the intermediate level.

Young Birders Club Southwest Chapter
Ages 11 – 18
Kettering PRCA and Centerville-Washington Park District are collaborating to bring the joy of birdwatching to our youth. Birdwatching and identification is a fun and rewarding hobby and a great place to make friends! Light snacks are included. Participants must be members of the Ohio Young Birders Club. Winter programs will be held by Kettering PRCA.

Early Adventures
Ages 0 – 5 years with adult companion
Hit the trail with us! These exploratory hikes foster curiosity and confidence in young children. Your leader will point out seasonal changes and other natural points of interest in the parks. Hike is on a natural path. This is a Tools to Trek program. Backpacks and front carriers are appropriate if your child is not walking.

Pet Pros: All About Parrots

Are you interested in learning what it takes to provide a healthy and happy home for a less common pet (i.e. rabbits, reptiles, parrots, etc.)? The Pet Pros series invites community experts to teach everything there is to know about responsible pet ownership! This month, we’ve invited experts from the Sugarcreek Bird Farm (and some of their beautiful birds) to teach about parrots and bird ownership!

Cryptid Camo-Contest & Scavenger Hunt
All ages
Wednesday, October 2 – Wednesday, October 16
Our favorite characters from Cryptids Together, a comic by professional cartoonist Steve Stegelin showcased in the Cincinnati Cabinet of Curiosities comics anthology, are back and ready to compete! Your mission is to find at least 3 of the 5 cryptids along the colored trails in Bill Yeck Park (red, orange, purple, yellow and brown) and learn which animal each contestant chose. Once you’ve found everyone, scan the QR code on the sign and enter the names of at least three animals to win a Cryptids Together Sticker!
Halloween Hop & Howl: A
All ages
Put on your Halloween best and join us for a festive stroll for preschoolers and their families around Forest Field Park. Themed signs will be placed along the path to get kids moving and grooving as they collect goodies at various stations. Families are encouraged to come in costume and enjoy the Halloween spirit. The first 100 participants will receive tickets for free Kona Ice, sponsored by Tammy Zell of the Sasser Group/KW Advisors Realty! Kona Ice is weather dependent. This is a “teal pumpkin” event — all treats will be allergy-friendly. Please bring your own bag to collect treats!

Campfire Yoga

Celebrate the crisp evening weather with Method Yoga Studio’s Megan Lees! Enjoy some downtime next to the warm and cozy fire. This outdoor yoga class will include warm-up, breath work, standing poses, flowing poses and end with relaxation around the campfire.

Doggy Fitness Day!
All ages
Join Zoom Room for a special Pup-Lates class that focuses on building strength and boosting trust between owner and pup. Let’s learn something new, build agility and help our pups get (or stay!) in shape! We will also have a walking trail with tricks and treats, brain-boggling puzzles and obedience challenges.

Fall Foliage Canvas Painting
Ages 16 and up
Join CWPD and Kristin Bailey from The Purple Paintbrush LLC for an evening of exploring fall foliage in the park through paint. Dress warmly for a hike to take in the colors before we begin to paint. Warm beverages will be provided to keep you cozy! This class is open to all skill levels.
