The Great Geocaching Adventure

Pack the family in the car, because it’s time for The Great Geocaching Adventure! Each week, beginning July 20, a new set of geocaches will be hidden in one of your 51 parks! Throughout this event, you’ll hone your skills as an adventurer, treasure hunter and nature enthusiast! If you successfully find 20 geocaches, you’ll earn a free t-shirt!

Little Explorers

Hey, explorers! We’re going to go adventure in the parks! Join our Naturalist, Kayla to find some of the ‘hidden gem’ sites at our most popular parks. We’ll visit the apiary and seed nursery, find the best place to catch loads of crayfish in our creeks, explore a rare wetland and hike our brand new trails. After watching the video, visit the spot with your family and send us a photo. Each location visited will get you a code word for Tools to Trek. Download our Tools to Trek brochure and begin earning fun prizes!

Videos will be released at 12:00 p.m. Families will have until the release of the next video to send in their pictures. Pictures can be sent to summernaturalist@cwpd.org. Families can join the fun at any time, even for just the last location. (Recommended for families with young children)

Forest Ranger Kit (Ages 3 – 6)

Has your child ever wondered what a park ranger is or what they do? They have the chance to become a junior park ranger for a day with this fun adventure kit! Make a park ranger outfit and go on a scavenger hunt! Activities and crafts will get children looking at nature! Kit includes ranger outfit craft, flip guides, magnifying glass, activities and more! Ages 3 – 6.

Forest Ranger Kit (Ages 7 – 10)

Wednesday, August 12, 8:00 a.m.

Has your child ever looked at a park ranger and thought, “I want to do that when I get older!” With this kit, they can build their park ranger pack, learn about animal tracks, and do activities to help them learn more about nature! Kits include a bandanna, compass, scavenger hunt, guidebook and more!

Butterfly Survey

Help contribute to citizen science by joining the naturalist on butterfly surveys. Identify and count butterflies and observe other seasonal wildlife as we stroll. No experience necessary. Trail is approximately one mile in length on uneven terrain. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Ages 10 and up.

Bike Centerville Community Ride

Take advantage of this opportunity to explore Centerville and Washington Township by bicycle. The ride will be led by trained and experienced bike leaders and will help you learn routes to shopping, parks and more! Rides will be an easy-paced 10 to 15 miles that start and end at a park. Ages 18 and up.

Strollers in Motion is an awesome way to get fit, meet new people, and have fun with your little ones! And, after some classes, special activities will be planned for the children! All new participants will receive a water bottle. Strollers in Motion is led by a Strollercize® certified instructor, Mandy Cherry.

By using a combination of aerobic dance movements, fast and slow rhythms, resistance training, balance and mat work, Cardio Combo classes help you burn calories; improve cardiovascular performance; strengthen core, upper and lower body; and enhance coordination. Taught by experienced dance fitness instructor, Janet Hartsock. Bring water and weights. Ages 18 and up.

Nature Design Challenge: DIY!

All engineers on deck! These kits are a fun-filled afternoon of science and engineering using materials from nature. Participants will get to plan, build and test their designs for the surprise STEM challenge included in the kit! There will be one kit per month that will feature a new challenge. Best for ages 7 – 13.

Trekking with Nordic poles is a wonderful way to cross-train or try something new. The Cooper Institute research studies showed Nordic walking burns more calories, increases oxygen consumption and can be 46% more efficient than normal walking. Nordic poles provided are adjustable to your height. Various locations. Ages 18 and up.

Early Adventures

Parents and little ones will experience the autumn season in their parks. These leisurely hikes provide great family time in nature. This program is limited to one adult companion per registrant. Ages 0 – 4 years with adult companion.

Creature ComMOTION Video Series A
