Kids Create & Learn: Yogurt Snowman Snack

Join instructor Katie Blauser from Eat Pretty Darling during winter break to learn how to make a healthy and fun snack: yogurt snowmen!

Arctic Exploration Camp

A winter break camp experience to keep your children active while school is out! Much like our summer day camp, campers will explore the park, but this time for all things winter! Children will warm up in the Smith House with games, crafts and nature programs.

Winter Hiking Club: Backyard Birds
All ages
Getting outdoors makes us happy and healthy, especially in the wintertime! Participants will join the instructor for a brief nature lesson, game or activity before the group starts the hike to explore the park. This is a Tools to Trek program. Individuals attending three or more hikes will get a themed patch. This hike takes place on a paved path.
Participants can register up to the start of the program.
Letters to Owlexander
All ages
Monday, January 1 – Wednesday, January 31
Owlexander, the Park District mascot, loves keeping in touch with his park friends! He would love to receive a letter, drawing or card telling him all about your winter park adventures. He is a great pen pal and will be sure to write you back too. Letters can be dropped off at a special mailbox throughout January. Please address your letters to Owlexander Parks (no stamp necessary).
Owlexander will make a special appearance at Headquarters on Saturday, January 20 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. if you would like to hand deliver a letter to him! He may even have a special treat for you!
Recyclemania with Stemily
Ages 7 – 10
Tuesday, January 2 – Wednesday, January 3
We are going recycling crazy! Campers will learn the importance of recycling and how to re-utilize everyday objects, turning them into STEM and art creations. Pieces will be displayed in an art gallery for all grown-ups to enjoy at the end of camp.

Conservation Crew: Invasive Plant Removal
Ages 12 – 17
Winter is the perfect time to take out invasive ivy! Crew members will learn about this invasive and why we want to make the effort to remove it from your parks. We will head into the park and start pulling it.

A Stroll in the Park
Adult caregivers with child 6 weeks – Pre K
Kick off the new year by checking out the new paved trail on a leisurely stroll with your stroller-aged child(ren). Choose between a regular hot latte, non-dairy hot latte or hot chocolate and we’ll have it ready for you at the park to start our walk!

Styrofoam Recycling Event
Volunteers will unload your vehicle — you won’t even need to get out of your car! Please make sure you are following the guidelines listed below:
* Styrofoam must be clean
* No food containers
* No stickers or tape
Collected Styrofoam will be transported to the ECO Development facility in Mason and recycled into products like surfboards, picture frames and coat hangers.
Young Birders Club Chapter Meeting
Ages 10 – 18
You will walk away with a greater knowledge of birds and their role in the ecosystem. Club activities are based on participant feedback, so you direct the focus of study. A light snack is included. Participants must be members of the Ohio Young Birders Club.

Outdoor Explorers
Ages 9 – 12
Mondays, January 8 – February 12
Children will learn about nature and the outdoors in this program designed to allow children to interact with nature in unique ways. Activities include discovery, challenges and games. We occasionally celebrate the last session of the season with a campfire and s’mores. Please let us know if your child has any dietary restrictions by answering the custom questions upon registration.

Intermediate Tai Chi
Ages 18 and up
Mondays, January 8 – February 12
Continue to develop Tai Chi and Qigong principles moving from Tai Chi Easy™ into Dr. Roger Jahnke’s Integral Tai Chi form. Taught by Judy Wilson, Certified Integral Qigong and Tai Chi Instructor. This class will take place outdoors with the option to move indoors for inclement weather.

Gentle Yoga
Ages 18 and up
Tuesdays, January 9 – February 27
Join us for a gentler, more adaptable yoga program. This class will feature additional guidance, modifications and props to assist in supporting postures and a slower pace. Taught by certified yoga instructor Kathleen Crosby. Please bring a yoga mat and water.

Let’s Meet Up
All ages
Meet other parents/caregivers and their children. Stop by the Kennard Nature Nook for a snack. Then, explore the nature play area and trails during this casual meet-up! Staff will have one activity planned for each session that children can participate in before or after unstructured playtime. The meet-up will not be held in inclement weather, check cwpd.org for updates. This is not a drop-off program; parents/caregivers are required to stay with their children.
