CENTERVILLE, OH: National Get Outdoors Day encourages Americans, especially youth, to get active outdoors and embrace parks, forests and other public lands and water.
The Centerville-Washington Park District is hosting their third annual National Get Outdoors Day Celebration at Grant Park on Saturday, June 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. Grant Park is a 189-acre nature park with trails along a creek and through meadow, forest and wetland habitats. The park is located at 501 Normandy Ridge Rd. in Washington Township.
The National Get Outdoors Day Celebration will include games and activities that focus on fun ways to enjoy nature. Participants can choose between self-guided and staff-led activities, including hiking and creeking. S’mores will be provided at a bonfire beginning at 6 p.m. Families are welcome to bring their own dinner to cook over the campfire. It will be like an evening of camping – without the overnight stay! This event is a great way to kick off outdoor summer fun!
“Research shows that time in nature makes children happier, healthier and even smarter! We’re excited to offer this special afternoon to get families excited about an outdoor summer,” said Katy Lucas, Environmental Education Supervisor at the Centerville-Washington Park District.
Registration is required for this free event. Spots are limited. Register online or call 937-433-5155 to register.
The Centerville-Washington Park District operates eight community parks, nine nature parks, and 34 neighborhood parks encompassing more than 1,030 acres in Centerville and Washington Township.
