Subject: Free Youth Sports Clinic and Talk

WASHINGTON TWP, OH: Former NBA player Bob Bigelow is coming to Centerville to speak to parents and coaches about youth sports. The Centerville Baseball & Softball League, the Centerville-Washington Park District and the Washington Township Recreation Center are sponsoring the free community event. The talk will take place October 3 at Washington Township Rec West, 965 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., from 7:30 – 9 p.m. At 6:00 p.m., there is a free clinic for basketball coaches of children grades 3 – 8.

Bob Bigelow is an international expert on youth sports who focuses on improving children’s experience with sports. Bob has written multiple books, including “Just Let the Kids Play”, which will be available for purchase on October 3. He has also produced three youth basketball coaching DVDs. Over the last 20 years, thousands of youth basketball coaches all over the world have benefitted from his clinics. He gives coaches the confidence they need to teach age-appropriate skills to their players.

The dialogue will be an honest and straightforward talk for parents, coaches and all adults involved with youth sports. Bob provides a chance for adults to look at youth sports through the eyes of the children. The overall priority is to provide new approaches to meet the needs of young athletes in a positive manner. Bob will offer a wide variety of different approaches and solutions to better the youth sports experience. He will cover different challenges and dilemmas that youth sports face when over invested and zealous adults insert themselves into children’s games. He provides solutions to many youth team problems that arise. He advocates a return to a child-centered youth sports culture, allowing kids to have fun while they play. The more fun they have, the more they will play, in turn making overall better players.
