Subject: BIG Backyard Party celebrates community with park grand opening

WASHINGTON TWP, OH: The Centerville-Washington Park District is hosting a free community appreciation event to celebrate the grand opening of their newest community park! The BIG Backyard Party is Saturday, September 17 from 1 – 4 p.m. at Robert F. Mays Park. There will be lacrosse demonstrations, games, raffles, face painting, a balloon artist, a magician, scavenger hunts, a castle bounce house, an inflatable obstacle course and free ice cream! Robert F. Mays Park features a paved multi-use path, a large picnic shelter, an all-access playground, a hitting wall and athletic field space. The 23-acre park is located at 10553 Paragon Road. Access to the park is from Sheehan Road, to Paragon Road.

The park is named in honor of Robert F. Mays, who made the largest donation in Park District history in order to significantly fund the park’s development. Bob Mays raised his family in Washington Township, and the parks were a big part of their everyday lives. “My family spent many enjoyable hours in our local parks as the kids were growing up,” said Bob Mays. “We have always felt proud of the value our parks bring to the community, and I feel fortunate to be able to support park growth.”

Bob passed away July 6, 2016 at the age of 87. “The Centerville-Washington Park District is proud that Bob’s legacy can live on through this high-quality community recreational area,” said Arnie Biondo, director of the Park District.
