Face Your Fears: Imagine the Worst Thing that
Could Happen – and How to Cope with it
Surprisingly, one way to put the brakes on anxiety may be to actually
imagine your worst-case scenario. By vividly describing what you fear most,
you can make plans to survive it as well as realize that some of your fears
are irrational. If you can’t come up with a coping strategy on your own,
talk with someone who can help you.
“My clients tell me that they use
this technique when they are anxious, and it always calms them down,” says
Daneen Skube, PhD, an executive coach, trainer, and therapist.
Skube
offers this additional advice for clients during tough times: “Don’t give
up: The only way to ensure failure is to stop trying.”
