Skin Cancer Prevention
Update
Limiting your exposure to ultraviolet light – including that used in indoor tanning booths as well as natural sunlight – is the number one thing you can do to reduce your risk of skin cancer.
Seek shade between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 4:00
P.M. when the sun’s rays are strongest. Avoid indoor tanning booths, and use sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays whenever you plan to be outdoors (even in cloudy weather) for more than 15 minutes.
Unlike many other types of cancer, the rate of skin cancer in the U.S. is increasing in all age groups, says Dr. Sandra Read of Georgetown University School of Medicine.
