Program Registration Information
Youth Programs:
A Day at the Beach - School is out and it is cold outside!
Children ages 7-9 enjoy a beach party inside.
Capture the Flag and Bonfire - Youth
in grades 6-8 play a big game of Capture the Flag in Grant Park and enjoy s'mores by the campfire afterwards
in the spring and fall.
Crafting Club - Youth ages 9-13 create keepsakes for themselves
or to give as gifts at this monthly program.
Grand
Gifts - Children ages 3-6 with grandparent(s) make a craft for mom for
Mother's Day and a gift for dad for Father's Day.
Kiddie Krafts - Children ages 3-5 enjoy a
craft, story, and song about a different animal each week. This program is
held during the fall, winter, and spring.
Halloween Mini Trail - A Halloween adventure where children ages 3-8
and their adult companions enjoy a stage performance at the Chimneys in
Grant Park.
Handmade Holiday - Children ages 3-6 with grandparent(s) make holiday
crafts in December.
Intergenerational Series
- Children ages 3-6 with grandparent(s) celebrate special spring days.
Introduction to Geocaching
- Youth ages 12 and older with an adult companion learn about geocaching and
find caches in Grant Park.
Playdate Cafe - Children ages 18 months-2 years with an adult
companion enjoy nature themed activities and socialize.
Preschool Play Yard - Children
ages 3-5 enjoy summer in the parks with Park District staff. Program is held
Monday through Thursday from 1:00-3:00 at various community parks.
Pumpkinpalooza - Children ages 3-5 with grandparent(s) paint a
pumpkin, go on a pumpkin hike, and make a craft in the fall.
Spring Recreation Program - Youth ages 6-10 enjoy outdoor games
after a craft and after-school snack.
Summer Recreation Program - Children ages 6-12 spend the summer in the parks
playing games, doing crafts, and making friends. Program is held mornings
and afternoons at various parks throughout the district.
Summer
Recreation Program II - Youth ages 11-15 hang out at Schoolhouse Park and
enjoy games such as Jailball, Grand Champion, Star Wars, Capture the Flag,
and Spud, tie-dying, and an end of the summer cook-out.
Summer
Special Events - Children ages 6-12 can participate in two FREE special
events this summer. Both events are set up carnival style with games and
activities. Children under age 6 must be accompanied by an adult at all
times. Registration is held at the park the day of the event.
Teen Outdoor Skills Club - Four-week
fishing and fish management course for teens.
Very Special Valentine - Children ages 3-6 with grandparent(s)
make valentine cards for their loved ones.
Family Programs:
Big Rig Gig -
Children of all ages with an adult companion. Touch and climb on many
vehicles used in the community at this spring program.
Campfire Sing-Along - Enjoy a roaring campfire and sing an
assortment of campfire songs. Fun for the whole family each fall!
Fairy and Gnome Home Festival - Families create structures for fairies
and gnomes from natural materials.
Family Archery - Parents and children ages 8 and older learn
archery basics and compete in some target games.
Fishing Fun - Adults and children ages 8 and older enjoy fishing at Oak
Grove Park.
Friday Night Mutt Mixer - Canines and their owners enjoy agility and
obedience demonstrations, dog contests, and vendors.
Geocaching
- Technology meets nature - all ages can enjoy this hobby. Use a
Global Positioning System unit to find caches hidden in CWPD parks. Visit

Get Out & Play - Spend a fun-filled
summer evening with your family at Oak Grove Park.
Haunted Trail - A scary Halloween hike
through Grant Park for ages 8 to adult.
Adult Programs:
Adaptive Gardening: Raised Bed Basics
- Learn the benefits of raised bed gardens and how to build your own.
Barter Bazaar: Crafting Supplies - Trade your surplus
crafting supplies with others in community.
