Park District Awarded GrantsODNR Division of Wildlife Grant
The
Centerville-Washington Park District has been chosen by the Ohio Department
of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife's Shooting Sports Subsidy program
to receive a grant in the amount of $5,706.00. The Shooting Sports Grant,
funded in part by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Wildlife
Restoration Program, will enable the Park District to purchase two sets of
archery equipment and develop an ongoing archery program within our
community. This program is designed to introduce participants of all ages
and abilities to the sport of archery. Archery is a sport whose participants
increase self-confidence, strengthen core muscles, increase mental
concentration and most of all have fun. Archery programs will be led by Park
District employees and volunteers who are National Archery in the Schools
certified instructors. Look forward to archery programs offered by the
Centerville-Washington Park District coming this fall!

Centerville-Washington Park District Pledges to GetUp!
Centerville-Washington Park District has joined an exciting new
community-wide initiative aimed at helping kids and families live healthier.
GetUp Montgomery County is a community-wide, healthy lifestyles initiative
for kids and families. It is about driving a culture change in Montgomery
County where community partners make it easier for kids and families to live
a healthy lifestyle.
GetUp
Montgomery County uses a healthy lifestyles “prescription,” known as
5-2-1-Almost None, to provide the call to action aimed at addressing the
results of today’s unhealthy lifestyles. The Rx is simple: Get five fruits
and vegetables a day, less than two hours of leisure screen time (meaning
video games and TV), get one hour of active play every day (even if 15
minutes at a time) and drink Almost No sugary beverages.
GetUp is
also about driving a culture change that will help our community begin to
positively impact the health of kids and families today … and tomorrow.
Centerville-Washington Park District is very excited to be among the first
partners in this important effort.
Skate Park at Oak Creek South Park Wins OPRA
Award
The
Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA) has announced its 2010 Annual
Awards of Excellence winners. The Centerville-Washington Park District won a
third place award in the Park Area Development under $1,000,000 category for
the Oak Creek South Park Skate Park . In response to requests from
residents of Centerville and Washington Township, the Centerville-
Washington Park District constructed a skate park when Oak Creek South Park
was redeveloped in 2010. The initial design for the skate park was for a
component park, however, after further input from the community, a concrete
bowl design was selected. We now see groups of teens and young adults
visiting the park every day! The OPRA Annual Awards of Excellence
were presented at a banquet hosted by the association on February 10,
2011 at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherlands Plaza. One first place award
winner was presented with the 2010 Governor’s Award for Parks and
Recreation, a “best-in-show” award which included a $500 contribution to the
parks and recreation foundation of the agency winner. The awards are
judged in a two-tiered process, which includes a panel of parks and
recreation professionals from around Ohio, as well as, the association’s
Board of Directors.
