Community Contributions 2005-2007

Scout Support 2005-2007

Thirty-three local scouts from thirteen troops worked tirelessly during 2005-2007 to complete a myriad of projects in eleven parks. Because of their hard work and dedication, tax dollars could be directed to complete other projects.

Several neighborhood parks were improved thanks to the efforts of these scouts. Big Bend Park’s trail system was upgraded with the removal of honeysuckle and a new layer of chips and dust. Fifty trees were edged and mulched at Fence Row and Rosewood Parks. Tree identification signs, benches, split rail fence, and a fence around the aerator pump were installed at Rosewood Park. Bridge replacement and tree removal projects were completed at Greene Line Park. Beechwood Springs Park’s playground and park area benefited from a general maintenance, clean up, and mulching.

Honeysuckle, an invasive species, is present in many of our parks. Removal is time consuming and often labor intensive. Sunlight can once again reach the ground in the wooded sections of Schoolhouse, Oak Grove, and Black Oak Parks thanks to several scouts. Additionally, the oak grove at Oak Grove Park was mulched after being cleared of the honeysuckle.

Trail systems are also affected by honeysuckle growth. Honeysuckle removal and trail maintenance projects were completed at Rosewood, Beechwood Springs, Bill Yeck, and Grant Parks. Bridge and step construction projects assist with access to remote areas in Grant, Woodbourne Springs, and Bill Yeck Parks. Erosion and drainage issues were addressed in the Bill Yeck and Grant Park trail systems.

Bat, bluebird, and duck boxes were constructed and placed in numerous parks as well.

Listed below are the names of the scouts that completed the projects mentioned above and their troop affiliation. Thanks to this wonderful group of community leaders for their contributions!
